Overpopulation is a global issue which causes many problems from a social perspective. Humans experience the impacts of overpopulation in many ways. Among the problems are: Food and Water Shortages, Diminished Air and Environmental Quality, Disease and Health Problems, and Conflict, Depletion of Natural Resources, Desertification and Deforestation.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2012 the World population reached over 7,000,000,000 (7 billion) people. (Schlessinger, R. U.S. News and World Report. Dec. 2013). As the population increases, the worlds resources become more strained. This lesson encourages students to use their information literacy skills and creative thinking skills to analyze the effects of overpopulation and propose solutions.
